Low Voltage Lighting Technical Information

Low voltage garden lights give some of the best results in lighting up the garden. For ease of use, installation and safety the low voltage system is hard to beat. Most garden designers tend to use a 12 volt lighting system due to the reliability, ease of use and ongoing maintenance to the lights.
When planning the garden lighting scheme please note the following technical information on using low voltage lights.
Voltage Drop: It's worth calculating the distance for the 12v cable and matching it to the load and distance for the lights. If the distance or load is more than recommended it may cause a voltage drop and produce a slightly yellow effect with a dimmer light.
The voltage drop chart below is a good reference guide.

Maximum distance measured in metres for stated wattage
with voltage drop of up to one volt
Load in watts 2.5mm cable 4.0mm cable 6.0mm cable 10.0mm cable
