Q. Why buy from you?
A.  We only supply garden lights from our production, direct supply offers factory terms on high specification with quality stainless steel parts to the garden lights. If we run low between production runs we never substitute with cheap and cheerful lights from traders.

Q.  I’ve seen other lights but at much higher prices, how does that work?
A.  Our policy is to supply high quality lights direct, we cut out the lighting distributors, wholesalers and lights retailers. Each one in the chain takes a margin, by the time your light hits the shelf it’s gained quite a bit of weight.
Q.  What about the lights quality?
A.  Retailers typically buy lights at the cheapest price they can get, so the wholesaler goes to the cheapest lighting source – not always the best way to buy quality lights. Our lights brand is important to us, we never compromise on quality. Factory quality control set high bench marks on lights production, our mantra is quality, quality and quality.

Q.  Can I fit an energy saving light bulb?
A.   No problem, the new energy saving light bulbs will work fine on outdoor lights that are mains wired and not connected to a PIR sensor and a dimmer switch, also not suitable for LED or low voltage lights. Full details on which type of energy saving light bulb is included with the fitting and lighting instructions supplied.

Q.  Is fitting a domestic outdoor light affected by the Building Regulations?
A.  Minor work including changing outdoor wall lights, adding sockets/wiring are not affected, it’s not necessary to inform local authority and you can do minor work yourself. Fitting the light must be to wiring regulation standards, if in doubt ask an electrician to check the light fitting.

Q.  What are the changes to mains wiring?
A.  Today’s outdoor lights are fitted with Live wire (brown), Neutral wire (blue) and Earth (green/yellow). Old wiring used red for Live, black for Neutral and Earth same green/yellow as before. All mains wired lights are supplied with fitting/lighting instructions and full details on the changes.

Q.  How easy are the lights to fit?
A.  If you have outdoor lighting and wish to change your old light for a new stainless steel wall light the task is not complicated. You’ll need to switch off the power supply and swap one set of wires with the new light and possibly drill new fixing holes. If you don’t have wiring for outdoor lighting a new cable will need wiring to the fitting/light point.

Q . What is PIR?
A.  PIR stands for Passive Infra Red. Wall lights fitted with PIR can be set to light (switch on) when dark and when someone or an object (dog/cat) nears the wall light. You can set the length of time the PIR light will stay on for and how close someone has to be before the wall light turns on. Great for security and lighting areas that you don’t want to light all the time.

Q.  Are the garden lights OK in all weather?
A.  Outdoor lights must comply with CE regulations and are tested for use outdoors. They are given a rating know as an IP rating. This stands for Ingress Protection. All our outdoor lights have full IP rating for use outdoor and in the garden, for details on the IP rating refer to the specification chart on wall light.

Q.  Do you supply light bulbs?
A. A full range of light bulbs are due in the next few weeks. To view details on the different types, prices and brands see light bulb page.

Q.  Why are outdoor lights changing to the screw bulb fitting?
A.  The old bayonet type of light bulb is slowly disappearing to be replaced with the new screw type light bulb. Partly to do with EC harmonisation and the fact that the screw-in type of light bulbs are much less problematic and don’t suffer cracking and breaking of the old bayonet type. Full details on the type of light bulb will be with the lighting instructions most are E27 type and are stocked at all DIY stores and supermarkets.

Q.  Do you produce indoor lights?
A . Sorry, factory is geared to the manufacture of outdoor garden lights.
Q.  I can’t find any plastic or painted lights?
A.  We only use stainless steel; it’s the most durable and long lasting material for lighting outdoor/gardens/patios. Plastic lights have a tendency to go brittle and painted lights will fade in sunlight. See information on how to take care of your stainless steel garden lights.

Q. What is the street lighting switch off?

A. To meet national climate change targets and save money local councils have tested switching off street lights at midnight. These changes to street lighting are now starting to be implemented, for more information see street lighting switch off page

Q.  How many optimists does it take to change a light bulb?
A.  None, they’re convinced the light will come back on. Seriously, each light is different but they have been designed to allow a quick and secure method to change light bulbs. It’s worth noting that the new energy saving lights do last much, much longer than the old light bulbs.
